Parisian soul/jazz diva China Moses is coming for a unique performance on the main stage of Gazarte!

Nothing compares to a night with China Moses, taking the helm of the entertainment! Soul/jazz diva and popular late night Jazz FM host China Moses, daughter of Dee Dee Bridgewater and director Gilbert, was born in Los Angeles and raised in Paris.

Her albums have seen her collaborate with such notable names as Guru, DJ Mehdi, Karriem Riggins, Meshell Ndegeocello, Anthony Marshall and sound engineer Bob Power. In 2009 she released This One’s For Dinah (Blue Note France), a tribute to her idol Dinah Washington, with pianist Raphaël Lemonnier.

 

On her recent album Nightintales (EDEL), China is carving out her own territory. The twelve resulting songs are destined to become new standards. Her R&B heritage allows her to smile around a phrase, convey emotion in a lyric, and infuse depth into every note.

Surrounded by an ensemble of accomplished musicians, China Moses promises to redefine the Jazz Vocal archetype and usher in a new era – with us witnessing through the magical live performance she has planned – on Saturday 2/12 – at the Gazarte Main Stage.

Avishai Cohen. A unique performer whose every appearance in our country, is an event and has left an indelible mark on the history of gazarte music stage. A true innovator whose music is proof of the power of creativity and the ability of music to connect people from different cultures and backgrounds.

From his first steps alongside Danilo Perez to his participation in Chick Corea’s super group and collaborations with the biggest names in jazz such as Herbie Hancock, Paquito D’Rivera, Bobby Mc Ferrin and Alicia Keys among others, Avishai Cohen is undoubtedly one of the most iconic figures of contemporary Jazz with a unique musical personality, having put his own unique mark on tracks such as ‘Seven Seas’ and ‘Smash’.

 

Whether you are a jazz lover or just a lover of good music, Avishai Cohen, is sure to touch your heart!

This time the great bassist will be joined by 2 other outstanding musicians, Guy Moskovich on piano and Roni Kaspi on drums.

Iconic composer and musician Roy Ayers returns to gazarte’s Main Stage on May 23rd to groove one last time as part of his Farewell Tour and officially bid farewell to live performances. His appearance will take place within the club program of the 22nd Athens Jazz, the biggest jazz music festival in Greece!

The godfather of Neo-Soul, will take us one last time through the history of soul, jazz & R&B, through his timeless approach to music, and will say a grand farewell to the Greek audience with his sexy melodies!

From ‘Everybody Loves the Sunshine’ to ‘Searching’, the great Roy’s melodies and samples have been used widely from jazz and soul, to hip hop and disco and have left their mark on music, which it is preserved unchanged through the new generations of musicians as well as all musical spectrums.

He will be joined by distinguished musicians:

The jazz maestro, the unsurpassed Billy Cobham, returns on Friday, November 1oth to Athens for a unique concert at Gazarte!

On the 50th anniversary of the legendary Spectrum album, Billy Cobham is back on tour to remind us why this album became a jazz benchmark, with the legendary Stratus track writing its own story and being harnessed by Massive Attack as a sample for ‘Safe from harm’.

Flanked by distinguished musicians such as Gary Husband (keyboards) who has been next to great figures in music such as John McLaughlin, Rocco Zifarelli (guitar) for 23 years guitarist of the great composer Ennio Morricone and Michael Mondesir (bass) who has collaborate with artists such as Jeff Beck and Whitney Houston.

 

The “god” of drums and leader of the jazz fusion scene, Billy Cobham, is ready to take us on a musical journey that we will never forget, giving the ideal, festive epilogue to the 22nd edition of Athens Jazz.

Το γκρουπ που επαναπροσδιόρισε την βρετανική, jazz dance σκηνή, ανεβαίνει στο Main Stage του Gazarte στις 25 Μαρτίου, για μια εμφάνιση που θα θυμόμαστε για καιρό!  

 

Ο James Taylor, ένας από τους πιο σημαντικούς Βρετανούς μουσικούς της γενιάς του, έχει καταλάβει τον κόσμο της μουσικής με τις χαρακτηριστικές μελωδίες του Hammond, για πάνω από 25 χρόνια. 

 

Αντλώντας την έμπνευσή τους από το groove της funk και της boogaloo funk των δεκαετιών του ’60 και του ’70, οι James Taylor Quartet είναι χωρίς αμφιβολία, ένα από τα πιο σημαντικά jazz-pop σύνολα στην Βρετανική μουσική ιστορία. Η εντυπωσιακή και πιο χαρακτηριστική μελωδία τους, το The Theme from Starsky and Hutch, εδραίωσε τη φήμη τους ως masters της jazz-funk-r’n’b.  

 

Οι JTQ είναι επίσης γνωστοί για τις εκρηκτικές live εμφανίσεις τους, που όποιος έχει παρευρεθεί, συμφωνεί πως είναι από τα events που θέλεις να ζήσεις!  

 

Από τα μέσα των 80’s το James Taylor Quartet έχει θέσει τα θεμέλια για τους ήχους της acid jazz και το μόνο που είναι δεδομένο είναι πως στις 25 Μαρτίου στο Main Stage του Gazarte, θα ζήσουμε ανεπανάληπτες στιγμές!

“Impressions of Ella”

H Robin McKelle επιστρέφει στο Gazarte για μια βραδιά αφιερωμένη στην εμβληματική Ella Fitzerald.  

 

H Robin McKelle έχει χτίσει την πολυετή καριέρα της εξερευνώντας την πολυποίκιλη Αμερικανική μουσική. Με το άλμπουμ-ωδή στην Ella Fitzerald, “Impressions of Ella”, επιστρέφει στις jazz ρίζες της! 

 

Το “Impressions of Ella”, που θα κυκλοφορήσει τον Ιούνιο του 2023, βρίσκει την McKelle πιο ώριμη από ποτέ σε όλα τα επίπεδα. 15 χρόνια μετά το πρώτο της άλμπουμ, αισθάνεται έτοιμη να αντιμετωπίσει το συναισθηματικό βάρος πίσω από τα μεγάλα πρότυπα της jazz που θεμελίωσε η Ella Fitzerald.  

 

“Η φωνή μου έχει ωριμάσει και ένιωσα ότι έφτασα σε μια φάση ζωής όπου μπορούσα να ταυτιστώ με τους στίχους και μπορούσα να τραγουδήσω αυτές τις ιστορίες με την ψυχή μου, επειδή τις είχα ζήσει. Έτσι κατάλαβα ότι είχε έρθει το πλήρωμα του χρόνου και ήμουν έτοιμη να επιστρέψω σε αυτή τη μουσική και σε αυτό το ρεπερτόριο.” 

  

Για να πάρει σάρκα και οστά αυτό το απαιτητικό project η McKelle συνεργάστηκε με το εξαιρετικά ταλαντούχο τρίο των: Kenny Washington στα ντραμς, τον Peter Washington στο μπάσο και τον NEA Jazz Master, Kenny Barron στο πιάνο.  

 

Με μια επιλογή από τη μεγάλη λίστα κομματιών της Ella Fitzerald, το ‘Impressions of Ella’ συμπεριλαμβάνει ντουέτα με τους The Oscar Peterson Trio. Ωστόσο είναι πολλά περισσότερα από ένα tribute album. H Robin McKelle επιλέγει να δώσει περισσότερη βαρύτητα στις επιμελείς συνθέσεις και στην έντονη μουσικότητα των διασκευών, δίνοντας νέα οπτική στο διαχρονικό ύφος των κομματιών της Ella Fitzerald.  

 

Στις 24 Μαρτίου η Robin McKelle ανεβαίνει στην Main Stage του Gazarte, για μια βραδιά που θα μας μείνει αξέχαστη.
