BLACK DOLDRUMS

Black Doldrums

Saturday, March 22, 2025
Gazarte Ground Stage, Athens

The London-based gothic post-punk trio Black Doldrums is coming to Greece for the first time as part of their highly anticipated 2025 European tour. Known for their high-energy live performances that blend tribal drumming, atmospheric guitar passages, and introspective lyrics, the British band will captivate audiences in Ptolemaida, Athens, and Thessaloniki with their electrifying shows.

Formed by Kevin Gibbard and Sophie Landers, Black Doldrums have received widespread acclaim from both fans and the music press. Their distinctive sound has been described by Uncut magazine as “a raw fusion of post-punk, reverb, drone, and melody.” Their debut album, Dead Awake, produced by Jared Artaud (The Vacant Lots), was praised by major media outlets such as Rolling Stone, Uncut, and Sonic Seducer.

In October 2024, the band released their second album, In Limerence, under the London-based label Fuzz Club (home to The Underground Youth, A Place To Bury Strangers, The Black Angels, King Gizzard, New Candys, and more). Co-produced by Theo Verney (known for his work with English Teacher, Lime Garden, Egyptian Blue, FUR, Fake Laugh, and TRAAMS), this new record showcases a more refined sound with cleaner textures and a more straightforward approach while maintaining the electrifying essence that defines the band’s live shows.

To promote In Limerence, Black Doldrums are embarking on an extensive European tour, bringing their unique gothic post-punk sound across the continent. Greek audiences can expect three unforgettable live experiences—immersive, euphoric, and dark post-punk performances that have already established the British trio as a must-see act in their genre.

COVEN

Coven (USA) “Magickal Chaos” East European Tour
Special Guest: Saturday Night Satan (GR)

Tuesday 22 April

Gazarte Ground Stage | Athens

The legendary forefathers of occult rock, Coven, with iconic frontwoman and priestess of the genre Jinx Dawson at the forefront, return to Europe for five live shows. Scheduled for April 2025, this concert series marks one of the rarest returns of the American band to the Old Continent, as well as – most likely – the last chance for audiences to enjoy them live in these cities and countries.

It is a fact that, apart from a few exclusive appearances at European festivals such as Roadburn, Desertfest, Hammer of Doom and Inferno, and despite their sought-after status, the cult spawners of occult rock did not used to visit this side of the Atlantic very often. At the same time this juncture finds Coven closing a busy cycle of activity, with numerous shows in the US, including a run alongside their truest musical descendants, the great Lucifer of Johanna Sadonis. Most recently, the band made their first small screen debut, appearing on the soundtrack of the TV series “Hysteria!” on the Peacock TV Network.

As the forerunners of an entire musical subgenre, Coven have influenced a huge range of bands, from heavy metal originators Black Sabbath, to the modern wave of bands like Lucifer, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, Blood Ceremony and Bloody Hammers. They are part of the first wave of occult rock, along with bands like Jacula, Black Widow, and even Iron Butterfly, and are rightly described by the music press and the public as one of the most influential acts of the late ’60s and early ’70s. With timeless anthems such as “Wicked Woman”, “Black Sabbath” and “Dignitaries of Hell” from their legendary 1969 debut Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls still playing on repeat on playlists worldwide, and despite their highly eclectic approach to the record, reinforced by long periods of absence from the scene, Coven remain active, having even released the 2013 album Jinx that further cemented their cult status.

Eastern Europe, and more specifically the Balkans, will have a rare opportunity to witness 5 unique concerts of this highly influential band, in one of their equally rare visits to the European continent.

Joining them in this run of 5 concerts will be Saturday Night Satan, the newly formed occult rock band from Athens. SNS made a big splash in 2024, with the release of their debut album All Things Black, for whose presentation they have already performed numerous concerts within borders, alongside big names like Judas Priest, Accept, Bruce Dickinson, Green Lung, Lucifer, Hällas, Night Demon and Sonja, and have appeared at top sound festivals like Up The Hammers, Release Athens, Mammothfest and Rethymno Rocks. With the first cut of their debut album almost sold out and they themselves never stop making exciting plans for their musical future, the quintet has already gained a reputation as a very dynamic act with rock’n’roll energy and impressive presence, which makes them the perfect addition, on this tour, destined to make its own history!
