AZYMUTH

50TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR

IN TRIBUTE TO IVAN “MAMÃO” CONTI

SATURDAY JUNE 24 | GAZARTE ROOF STAGE

Azymuth, the legendary jazz-funk trio is coming to the gazarte Roof Stage on Saturday June 24th to celebrate 50 years since their founding.

Starting from Brazil and traveling the world with their music, they managed to establish themselves on the world music scene with the unique mix of jazz-funk and samba, creating a new kind of music, “samba doido”. Azymuth’s music has become a source of inspiration for many artists as it epitomizes innovation and creativity!

Founding member and bassist Alex Malheiros and Ivan Conti’s best friend for more than 50 years said: “the word Azimuth in ancient Arabic (alsamt السمت) means “path” and I believe that the new path for Azymuth will be open and must continue. Like a Fenix (phoenix), we must rise”.

Mamão’s mates Alex & Kiko have invited their Brazilian drummer and close friend, Renato Massa, to this tour. Massa is one of Brazil’s most respected drummers. He is a favorite of Marcos Valle and has also collaborated with Eumir Deodato and Ed Motta, among countless others.

On Saturday June 24th, Azymuth is coming to the Roof Stage of gazarte! The tunes of “samba doido” will have us rocking under the summer moon and we will celebrate the legacy of Ivan “Mamão” Conti!
