Messa, the Italian doomsters who have fascinated audiences and music press worldwide with their unique “scarlet doom” style, return to Greece after their highly successful 2023 shows, for two performances that are expected—once again—to be mesmerizing! On Friday, December 5th, they will appear at Gazarte Ground Stage in Athens, supported by Empty Frame and Tortuga, while on Saturday, December 6th, they will take the stage at Eightball Club in Thessaloniki, joined solely by Tortuga.

Since their formation in 2014, Messa have managed to leave a distinct mark on the international doom-metal scene, blending heavy riffs with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influences, jazz injections, blues aesthetics, and of course the irresistible voice of the immensely talented Sara Bianchin. From their debut Belfry (2016), to the multi-layered Feast for Water (2018), and the gripping Close (2022), each album represents a new chapter in their ongoing and restless artistic exploration. Their most recent work, The Spin (2024, Metal Blade Records), showcases their creative boldness even further, flirting with ’80s gothic references, synth-based arrangements, and cinematic moments.

With performances at some of the world’s major festivals such as Hellfest, Roadburn, and Desertfest, Messa have established themselves as one of the most distinctive forces in contemporary extreme music. At their live shows, doom meets the mystical, traditional sounds collide with explosive metal energy, all merging into a ritualistic experience rarely encountered — delivered by a charismatic band that truly knows what it’s doing.

The concerts in Athens and Thessaloniki mark the long-awaited return of Messa, a band that never settles for the ordinary or the predictable, but instead consistently chooses to experiment and take us on journeys through new, uncharted sonic landscapes.
