The Jesus and Mary Chain, one of the most influential bands in the history of alternative music, return to Greece to celebrate their 40th anniversary!
The legendary Scottish band, Jim and William Reid, are hitting the road again, with the release of their excellent new album, Glasgow Eyes. The inimitable on-stage energy, boundless electricity and dark romanticism, all the elements that have made Jesus and Mary Chain unique for four decades, will be transformed into two highly anticipated concert nights on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 June at the Gazarte Ground Stage!
Born and raised artistically in Scotland’s post-punk scene in the 1980s, The Jesus and Mary Chain can boast that they changed the course of alternative music forever with their influential 1985 debut Psychocandy. With pop melodies, reverb weaving their sophisticated atmospheres and massive, deafening, distorted walls of sound at the forefront, the Scots created the sound that would inspire entire musical movements such as shoegaze and noise rock. Their recording career is full of timeless gems like Darklands (1987), Automatic (1989) and Munki (1998), which established them as the band that changed the landscape of rock music once and for all. Their reunion in 2007 proclaimed joy to their huge fanbase and rock listeners everywhere. And the concert run that followed has grown their name even further, proving once again their immense influence on the rock scene.
In 2024, on their 40th anniversary, The Jesus and Mary Chain released the amazing Glasgow Eyes, which reached number 7 in the UK charts, confirming once again their legendary status. Recorded at Mogwai’s Castle of Doom Studios, the new album retains, yes, the familiar mix of melody and distortion they’ve been marching with in years past, while incorporating dark electronic elements and a spontaneous, almost jazz-like, spontaneous energy that gives a fresh breath to the project.
With a career that has marked generations and carrying a reputation as a live act that captivates you with its intensity, emotion and raw truth, The Jesus and Mary Chain do not perform simple concerts, but rather deafening sonic rituals. On Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 June, the audience of Athens is invited to indulge in the hypnotic sound waves and anthems of The Jesus and Mary Chain and to experience up close a legendary band of alternative sound, which causes noise – metaphorically and literally – with every next move.
